CNC Machining Tolerances & Precision FAQ

Understanding Machining Tolerances

Standard machining tolerances generally adhere to ISO 2768-m (medium) or fine classifications. The exact achievable limits depend strongly on your material choice, part geometry, and whether the process involves multi-axis milling or high-speed turning.

While typical linear tolerances fall between ±0.05mm and ±0.1mm for general commercial manufacturing, specialized setups, dedicated fixtures, and secondary grinding can achieve significantly tighter dimensions when your application demands it.

Engineering Recommendation

We highly recommend isolating your critical-to-function dimensions and clearly marking them on your 2D engineering drawings during RFQ submission. This allows ZSCNC to optimize toolpaths and inspection routines, delivering accurate pricing and preventing downstream production delays.

Machining Lead TimesScheduling & Rush Services FAQ

ZSCNC Standard production lead time begins after technical drawing confirmation and order activation. Actual lead times depend on part complexityorder quantity, and raw material supply chain status. Leveraging our mature digital manufacturing scheduling system, we streamline production flow while ensuring quality compliance, reducing process nodes and optimizing delivery timelines. For urgent project deadlines, we also offer highly flexible custom scheduling solutions.

Standard Quick-Turn Sample Lead Time

3–7 business days

Small Batch Trial & Production

10–15 business days

Green Channel Rush Service

Supported (Subject to project evaluation)

From Quote Request to Final Delivery, How long does the full process take??

The full-cycle timeline consists of“Commercial Quotation + Order Scheduling & Machining + Logistics & Shipping”three parts. With complete drawings, the system typically completes 2–24 hours for a quick CNC quotation assessment; Sample or small-batch machining requires 3–15 business days; Domestic sea freight/Air freight and international express depend on destination (typically 2–5 business days) .

During actual manufacturing, What factors may extend production lead time??

Typical technical factors affecting lead time include: Difficult-to-machine materials (such as high-hardness titanium alloyssuperalloys) deep micro-holes and complex internal geometrieslarge-scale batch requirements, and special surface treatments requiring outsourcing or multi-step processing (such as thick-film anodizinghard chrome platingheat treatment, etc.) .

For urgent projects, Does the factory support rush orders?? How are rush fees calculated??

We maintain an emergency scheduling mechanism, accepting rush order insertion requests, depending on current workshop capacity and part complexity. Once confirmed as a rush order, we will prioritize through order insertiondouble-shift machining, and other expediting measures, Associated premiums and scheduling adjustments will be itemized in the quote.

Does the initial 2D/3D drawing confirmation or technical clarification phase, does it consume the scheduled Machining Lead Times?

Standard lead time starts after the engineering team completes technical clarification (DFM DFM (Design for Manufacturing) analysis) and mutual confirmation. Therefore, Ambiguous drawing annotationsunclear process requirements, or frequent revisions will extend pre-production review time. We strongly recommend providing completestandardized documentation at the initial inquiry stage to accelerate the overall timeline.

Committed Machining Lead Times and delay liability terms, How are they specified in contracts or orders??

To protect both parties, each formal purchase contract or order will specify the agreed estimated shipping date (Ex-works Date) . For production delays not caused by force majeure, we will strictly follow the compensation terms or liability provisions in the contract, ensuring a transparentcompliant, and traceable process.

MOQ & Manufacturing Quotation FAQ

ZSCNC offers flexible production volumes. While we specialize in both rapid prototyping and mass production, certain specialized materials or secondary processes (like specific heat treatments) may have a baseline MOQ to ensure cost-effectiveness. Most CNC machining projects can start from a single unit.

Yes, we support "one-off" prototyping. Pricing for single samples typically reflects the initial engineering setup, machine programming, and custom tooling costs. For long-term projects, we recommend discussing your forecasted annual volume so we can optimize your initial prototype investment.

Our transparent pricing model is based on: material type and market rate, total machining time (complexity), specialized tooling or custom jigs, surface finishing requirements, and the depth of quality documentation (e.g., full FAI reports vs. standard inspection).

Manufacturing benefits significantly from "economies of scale." By spreading the fixed setup and programming costs across more units, your per-piece price drops dramatically from the prototype phase to small batches (50-500 pcs) and high-volume production.

Absolutely. For recurring industrial projects, we offer Master Service Agreements (MSAs) and blanket purchase orders. This allows you to lock in lower high-volume pricing while receiving scheduled releases, improving your cash flow and ensuring supply chain stability.

CAD File Formats, Drawings & Submission Guidelines

Optimize your rapid prototyping turnaround. Follow these file specifications and secure submission methods to eliminate engineering bottlenecks and accelerate your RFQ response.

Which 3D CAD models and 2D drawing formats do you accept?

For precision CNC machining and rapid prototyping, we recommend submitting 3D models in STEP (.step, .stp) or IGES (.igs) formats. For 2D engineering drawings, we support DWG and DXF. We also accept PDF files as essential reference documentation for tolerances, thread specifications, and critical design notes.

What technical specifications must be included in my submission?

To ensure an accurate, binding quote, please clearly specify your required base materials, surface finishes, general and tight linear tolerances, exact quantities, and any specialized post-processing (such as heat treatment or anodizing). Highlighting critical functional dimensions prevents manufacturing delays.

How do I securely upload my designs? Do you execute NDAs?

You can upload your CAD files directly through our secure file upload RFQ portal, email them to our engineering team, or share a link via encrypted file transfer platforms. ZSCNC enforces strict intellectual property controls; we regularly sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) before design files are reviewed to protect your proprietary data.

What is your recommended file naming convention for version control?

We suggest using a structured format to maintain clear traceability: ProjectName_PartName_Revision_Date_Material (e.g., Enclosure_Base_Rev2_2026-05-21_Alu6061). Proper file naming minimizes version confusion and streamlines our engineering evaluation process.

How are design updates or drawing revisions handled?

If you need to implement an engineering change order (ECO), please submit the revised file with an updated revision number and an accompanying engineering change note. Our production tracking system logs all historical iterations to guarantee full transparency, compliance, and zero cross-version manufacturing errors.

STEP / STP

Payment Methods, Invoices & Contract FAQ

What payment methods and order terms do you accept?

ZSCNC supports secure bank wire transfers, T/T, and verified digital payment options. For most custom prototyping and manufacturing orders, we operate on a standard prepayment plus final balance billing structure tied to clear project milestones that align with our long-term manufacturing focus and about us.

Can you issue compliant VAT special or regular invoices?

Yes, we provide fully compliant corporate billing. We issue legal VAT special invoices and ordinary invoices matching standard manufacturing tax rates, ensuring seamless clearance with your corporate finance and accounting departments.

Is a formal contract required to begin manufacturing?

While standard rapid prototyping jobs can proceed via formal purchase order acknowledgments, we regularly sign comprehensive manufacturing contracts and framework agreements for long-term supply programs and high-value industrial production.

How are international settlements and currency exchange rates managed?

We facilitate cross-border procurement with multi-currency settlements. To insulate your budget from market volatility, the exchange rate is locked securely at the exact time of order confirmation, aligning with your company’s internal compliance.

What is your policy for order modifications or cancellations?

If your design or timeline changes, please contact your project engineer immediately. Because custom machining builds momentum rapidly, costs incurred for material procurement and completed processing cycles up to the formal hold point will be accounted for transparently. We always aim to find a balanced, flexible solution that minimizes your financial exposure.
